Wild Rivers Chapter of Trout Unlimited officially became a chapter of Trout Unlimited on June 4, 1983. Wild Rivers Trout Unlimited chapter is responsible for seven counties in northwest Wisconsin, including: Douglas, Bayfield, Ashland, Iron, Burnette, Washburn, and Sawyer Counties. We are the stewards for 2,126 miles of Class I, II & III trout streams across Northwest Wisconsin.
Wild Rivers TU chapter is not a trout fishing club. We are a non-profit. 501c(3) cold water conservation organization covering all of Northwest Wisconsin. We focus our efforts on conserving, restoring, and protecting our multi-use cold water rivers and trout streams for future generations. We work alongside the Wisconsin DNR and federal government agencies, such as the National Forest Service and US FWS, as well as other local non-profit conservation organizations.
We have over 210 members to our chapter. Our Wild Rivers TU Board of Directors is made up of 8 chapter volunteers. Our Board of Directors and other chapter members are not paid a salary, not even for gas or travel. We are all volunteers working to preserve our cold water trout streams. All donations and monies generated from our fundraising events goes directly to our stream habitat work, public conservation education and outreach, member events, veteran programs, and some to partner organizations. We also teach fly tying and fly casting at the Ashland High school every year for a complete semester and help with various kids fishing day events.
