After Larry Mann, Ken Benoit, and myself walked parts of the Clam River State Fishery Area in Burnett County in November, 2024 we all agreed this wonderful trout stream needed some serious work. We then met over Zoom in January 2025 with Craig Roberts and Jeremiah Fisk from the WI-DNR to discuss how WRTU Chapter could help the WI DNR to improve the Clam River State Fishery Area.
WRTU Chapter Adopts the Clam River State Fishery Area
Shortly after the Zoom meeting the Wild Rivers TU Chapter decided to adopt the Clam River State Fishery Area in Burnett County. Some of the initial work we will be doing this Spring is to restore fishermen’s access along the North Fork of the Clam River by brushing certain sections with the DNR. We will also be working with the WI-DNR to remove fallen trees where needed and clear downed tag alders in certain areas due to the 2021 snowfall. Other work will be helping the DNR by adding root balls in the stream to improve aquatic insect and trout habitat. In late Fall we will try to identify and monitor spawning trout redds.
WRTU Chapter has also committed to donate to the WI-DNR Clam Lake State Fishery Area in Burnett County a minimum of $3000 per year and at least 100 hours of volunteer labor. Whether you are a local TU Member or not, we will be looking for a help from local area residents. If you are interested in donating monies to our Clam River TU projects, or volunteering to help with workday projects please contact us at: tu.wildrivers@gmail.com, or Ken Benoit, troutster80@gmail.com, or Larry Mann, larry.mann2014@gmail.com.
