In the Spring of 2025, the Wild Rivers TU Chapter adopted the Clam River State Fishery Area. This is a Wisconsin DNR program to allow organizations to help the DNR improve and maintain state fishery and wildlife areas. Adopting the Clam River State Fishery Area means the Wild Rivers TU Chapter has committed to a three year program with DNR. In 2025 we donated to the DNR $4000 and close to 100 hours of volunteer labor to help improve the wild trout fishery and stream access.
June 24, 2025, we had our first planned WRTU Chapter workday with the DNR. We worked on brushing the old fishermen’s walking trails along the North Fork that had been neglected – much more to do. We located some of the old lunker structures installed fifteen years ago that also need work during future workdays.
The DNR brought 12 large root wads and rented heavy equipment (funded by WRTU Chapter) and installed them in specific locations along the North Fork of the Clam River with the State Fishery Area. They were installed to improve fish habitat.
Wild Rivers TU Chapter and the WI-DNR have much more workdays coming. With the hot summer weather and thick brush we will probably wait for Fall to do some more serious work. We hope you will helps us with our work on the Clam River Fishery Area.
